The western border region of Slovenia is marked by the remnants of the Great War, and has captivated the attention of numerous individuals, including Ernest Hemingway in his renowned novel Farewell to Arms. The region's tumultuous history of border changes throughout the 20th century and the subsequent migration of its population after the decline of its once-thriving industries are chronicled in this work. However, while examining the images that I took, I found myself not only viewing the region through the lens of my own search for a place to call home, but also revisiting childhood memories that were evoked by the photographs.
